The '05S/S collection was presented at a sterilized room-like space that was created in C.C.P’s atelier. Both ladies’ and men’s items were presented, both having similar points such as the material or the form of the item. In this presentation, the feel of antiqueness was kept subtle and industrialized feel was pushed on, as more practical furniture were in place. When it came to hangers, it was in a square shape with rectangle pipes used, and the space itself was seen with wider perspective. For items such as jewellery, the furniture that are normally used in leather factories for drying, was used for this particular occasion. Carol’s perspective towards the world was presented in a new fashion.
Summarizing the collection will come to one simple answer and that is finding the new standard from the new perspective. The starting point for the basic trousers was also the starting point for over-lock one piece, the collared polo shirts became items such as ponchos, and the traditionally medallion shoes came back with the look of object-died flat shoes. Something to especially look at is the fact that over-lock items have gained in numbers and variety of object-died items have became more broad. The object-died items have variety on leather such as kangaroo leather, and having white coloured items allows it to have the match with the lighter colours in the collection.
This collection named “instant” surely did surprise everyone by completely opposing the definition of the word “instant” that we have in our mind. These normally come from someone else telling you or one learning from his or her surroundings. Though when instants are created, the enormous amount of research and experiments will never be exposed to the public and is kept a secret, other than for those who work on it. This collection’s idea was to tell the message that the item has “instantly” to the ones that are watching. We’ve created a space where you can realise the reality after changing the perspective.
The installation “Mainstream Downstream” started with the performance that Carol Christian Poell did at Milan. People who let the Naviglio River take them will have the newest collection dressed on them. These people would not move at all, just like dead bodies but going with the flow. Carol Christian Poel wanted to emphisize what kind of world we live in nowadays, where people go with the flow, just like the river, and how dangerous it is. Products such as piece-died shoes were presented for the first time this season. In Life ecru, the video of the performance was played on the wall with enlarged images on them. The video and the image synchronized to create the atmosphere. Also, the clock that was used in the public of Europe over 100 years ago, defines “timeless” in the space. All great works easily rules out the limit of “time” and the work of Carol Christian Poell was presented and respected at the created space.
Lift Ecru from 1st Aug 2003 opening 1st 5h
Carol Christian Poell’s '03-04A/W collection had “structure analysis” as its concept, explaining the traditional methods, its materials and production method from his own perspective. Out of all, the PVC material item started off with man-made materials through machineries and processes to end up in a croquette sweater. By sewing this material together, the temperature is kept constant and allows air to circulate.
Originally, PVC was invented to have it used in places such as sterilized rooms. Keeping the room temperature and being able to communicate with the outside through transparent surface, keeps them intact. Therefore the “temporary protection” exists.
Been inspired by this idea, when people visit his atelier in Milan and see the items from behind where it hanged, the captured image will be transported to changing rooms (where privacy is respected) as a experimental live performance. This live performance portrays our actions in a shared space when it is done unconsciously, such as the atelier.
